1Where should we put the nuclear power stations?The deciding factors2The nuclear rods produce a lot of heat. This heats the water or gas in the closed system (pale blue). This then takes the heat to the heat exchanger which turns the darker blue water into the steam which turns the turbine which generates the electricity. The cooling tower returns the steam to water and it goes round again. This shows a cooling tower but that is not the only way to cool the water.
